Almut Arneth, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology/Dept. Atmospheric Environmental Research, Germany. Professor and Head of Division Ecosystem-Atmosphere Interactions.

I am a Biologist by training, with specialisation in Plant-Ecophysiology. Early in my career I have studied terrestrial ecosystem-atmosphere CO2 and water exchange with a range of measurement techniques (eddy covariance, stable isotopes). Over the last 15 years or so, I focussed more and more on global scale modelling of the interactions between climate change, land-use change, and various terrestrial ecosystem properties, using Dynamic Global Vegetation models. In addition to serving on the AIMES SSC, I am member of the Scientific Steering Committee of LUMIP (which addresses land-use change – climate change interactions as part of CMIP6, as a preparation for AR6). I am also a CLA in the current Global Assessment of the IPBES (Int. Science-Policy Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services), on the chapter “Future scenarios and projections”, and CLA of the IPCC Special Report on land and climate change (chapter “setting the scene”). I have coordinated the EC FP7 project LUC4C (Land use change: net climate forcing and option for mitigation and adaptation) and have been involved for many years in a number of EC projects related to Global Environmental Change.
