Tipping Elements, Irreversibility and Abrupt Change in the Earth System Discussion Series
Monthly, Virtual
More details
AIMES, the Earth Commission Working Group 1 Earth and Human Systems Intercomparison Modelling Project (EHSMIP) under the Global Commons Alliance and the Safe Landing Climates Lighthouse Activity of World Climate Research Program (WCRP) are organizing a discussion series that aims to advance the knowledge about tipping elements, irreversibility, and abrupt changes in the Earth system. It supports efforts to increase consistency in treatment of tipping elements in the scientific community, develop a research agenda, and design joint experiments and ideas for a Tipping Element Model Intercomparison Project (TipMip). The primary objective is to create an international science platform for the study of climatic, ecological and social tipping elements and their interactions in the Earth system.
Recent Technical Developments in Land Data Assimilation
June 19-21, 2023, 10:00 – 1:00 EDT, Virtual
More details
The goals of the workshop build on the goals of the AIMES Land DA Working Group to: 1) foster knowledge exchange across all groups working in land data assimilation; and 2) build a community of practice and collaboration in land DA, particularly for addressing the technical challenges we face in implementing land DA systems. This workshop also builds on the outcomes of the 1st Land DA workshop in 2021, which is summarized in this review article and meeting report and the 2nd annual workshop in 2022. Learn more about the Land DA Community.

Eastern Regional Dynamic Global Vegetation Modeling Conference
March 24-26, 2023, Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA
More details
The Eastern Regional Dynamic Global Vegetation Modeling Conference (ER-DGVM-C) brings together vegetation/land modelers primarily in the U.S. Eastern region for an annual regional conference to share science and foster collaborations. 2023 marks the inaugural meeting. This collegial, weekend conference is geared toward scientists, postdocs, and students who work with dynamic global vegetation models (DGVMs), particularly models that couple with surface hydrology and the atmosphere models. Scientists who conduct research on field sites, with satellite data, or other process-based models that inform model physics and parameters and provide boundary conditions are also encouraged to participate. Participants from outside the U.S. Eastern region are welcome.
