Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantitative Environmental Sciences at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Campus Alpin (IMK-IFU), Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher in quantitative Environmental Sciences to work within the European Commission funded wildE project (climate-smart rewilding: ecological restoration for climate change mitigation, adaptation and biodiversity support in Europe – see annex). The successful applicant will contribute to research on the impacts of environmental and policy change on land use and ecosystems, including biodiversity at large spatial scales (National to European scale). You will contribute to the further development and application of the CRAFTY agent-based model (https://landchange.imk-ifu.kit.edu/CRAFTY) within the LandSyMM modelling framework (https://landsymm.earth/) with a focus on evaluating the opportunity costs associated with rewilding in Europe along with other environmental trade-offs and co-benefits. ESA Internal Fellowships in EO for Earth System Science in Frascati, Italy
This positions reports to the Head of the Science Section in the Data Applications Division within the Science, Applications and Climate Department of the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes and will work in close cooperation with other staff of the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship include undertaking advanced research activities, contributing to develop an advanced reconstruction of the Earth system, supporting the definition, technical supervision and coordination of scientific exploitation projects, and maintaining a continuous dialogue with the scientific communities. As Research Fellow, you will be involved in the scientific activities of the Science Section within one of the following thematic priorities. Application deadline: 7 December 2022
Postdoctoral Position on GOES Fundamental Climate Data Record at NC Institute for Climate Studies, Asheville, NC, USA
North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies of NC State University at Asheville, NC is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar working in the area of satellite data analysis to support the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Fundamental Climate Data Record (FCDR). The postdoc will work closely with researchers from NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information and other international organizations including EUMETSAT to coordinate efforts in the GEORING project, review and assessment of calibration approaches for historical GOES data, definition of a GOES FCDR format with NOAA and international collaborators, and preparation for data processing including investigation of on-prem and cloud computing options. ESA Externally-Hosted Climate Fellowships in European Member States
ESA is calling for new proposals under the umbrella of the CCI Fellowship scheme. Host Organisation’s candidates shall propose a 2-year research plan contributing to at least one of the following areas: exploitation of the CCI ECVs to improve our understanding of carbon, water and energy cycles and investigate the long-term response of our climate system; cross-ECV research topics ranging from (but not exclusive to) teleconnections, tipping points, ice-ocean- atmosphere interactions, ocean surface currents, sea level budget closure, atmospheric trace gases, land- atmosphere exchange, terrestrial hydrology, and climate and human health; topics related to the exploitation of CCI ECVs in the context of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP). Application deadline: 31 January 2023
