Logistics

The workshop will take place at KIT-Campus Alpin, which is located in the southwest of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and lies in the south of Bavaria and Germany, close to the Austrian border.

    Traveling to Garmisch-Partenkirchen

      • by train via Munich (from north) or Innsbruck (from south) to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The local bus route No.2 (Direction “Kreuzeck – Alpspitzbahn”) will take you from the railway station directly to the Institute (leave at station “Hammersbacher Fußweg”).       • by bus There is a bus directly from Munich Airport to Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Munich Central Bus Station (ZOB). It runs several times a day. (runned by FLIXBUS)
      • by car via A 95 and B 2 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In town follow the road sign to Fernpass/Reutte/Grainau, then turn left to “KIT-Campsu Alpin and “Kreuzeckbahn/Alpspitzbahn”. Plan your trip with this route planner.
      • by airplane via Munich Airport (“Franz-Josef-Strauß”), which has direct connections with most of national and international cities. Then take the ‘Airport bus’ or ‘S-Bahn’ to Munich Central Station. From there take the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (s. above).

    Getting to KIT IMK-IFU

      Instructions for walking or taking public transportation to KIT can be found below. Upon arriving at KIT, follow the signs to the large seminar room.

        • by bus (20 minutes) the bus station ‘Michael-Ende-Kurpark’ is 130 m from the entrance of the Biohotel Garmischer Hof. Take the “2” toward Kreuzeck/Alpspitzbahn, Garmisch-Partenkirchen for 11 stops and get off at the ‘Hammersbacherfußweg’ station. This station is located at the front gate of KIT.
        • by foot (45 minutes) the walk to KIT is a mostly flat, scenic walk that will take you through a well-maintained path for hikers and cyclists called the “WANDERWEG/Riessersee- Hausberg Skistadion”.

          Weather

          The IMK-IFU at the KIT-Campus Alpin in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located in the Bavarian Alps. In November, you can expect temperatures to typically range between 8°C to -2°C (46°C to 29°C). Precipitation as either rain or snow is possible. Rain protection and warm clothing that can be worn in layers are recommended.
